Porcelain Veneers vs. Lumineers

Lumineers are a brand of veneer that is marketed for its ability to conserve tooth structure. A good veneer conserves as much tooth structure as possible so the goal is the same with traditional veneers. They advertise the “no-prep” veneers. This means that the teeth are not reduced.

While this is certainly the case in some situations with both traditional veneers and Lumineers, not all cases can be done without tooth preparation. If teeth are already positioned properly, doing a no-prep Lumineer or veneer will give the teeth an appearance of being too bulky and prominent. It is extremely important to have a thorough exam and understanding of the current positioning and health of the teeth before deciding on any cosmetic procedure and Lumineers are no different.

We will always make sure we discuss all the risks and benefits of all treatment options including Lumineers before you make a decision on your treatment. Whether we use a Lumineer or traditional veneer, the same amount of tooth will be conserved. The more of your natural tooth structure we conserve, the better it is for you.
