Dental Crowns

A crown is a restoration that rebuilds a tooth to the ideal shape and function. They are typically done when a tooth is compromised due to cracks, significant decay, significant wear, and significantly weakened tooth structure due to large restorations. Crowns can be made of materials such as porcelain and gold. Crowns sit over the remaining tooth structure much like a helmet and are kept in place with cement.

Crowns can also be used in cosmetic situations. When teeth are too compromised and lack sufficient enamel to do veneers, crowns can be an excellent alternative to restore teeth to ideal aesthetics, form, and function. They will have an appearance like a veneer with the difference being that a crown wraps all the way around the tooth to protect the compromised tooth structure.
